Gideon Lincecum (1793-1874) was a physician, philosopher and naturalist born in Warren County, Georgia. Lincecum first came to Texas on an exploring expedition in January 1835. He moved to Long Point, Texas in 1848. Lincecum was a widely published naturalist and scholar of Choctaw traditions. In 1868, Lincecum moved to Tuxpan, Mexico, to continue his studies.
